about rose-hulman

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology was founded in 1874 in Terre Haute, Indiana. It is a world-class engineering, science and mathematics school, therefore, neither Dave nor Beth attended school there. (The happy couple met instead at the lesser known Performing Arts Center at DePauw. Good thing, too, as Rose-Hulman had not yet become co-ed at the time they started college!) However, Beth's father attended and later taught at Rose-Hulman, and is still affiliated with the school in several capacities. Beth's parents recommended the site, and with one look at the pictures of the newly built White Chapel, they knew this was the place they were destined to get married.

Another favorite part of the campus is the sculpture located just along the front drive into the campus. Originally designed for an installation along the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago, this work of art entitled "The Flame of the Millennium" was deemed too bright and distracting for the drivers, and was eventually purchased and installed here at Rose-Hulman - and they were very excited about it! Beth's mom is actually part of an arts organization that helped with its procurement, and is dedicated to installing more works around the city of Terre Haute.

With over a hundred years of history, it would be hard to encapsulate it all here. Check out Rose-Hulman's website and see for yourself! You can even take an interactive tour!

Stretching in front of the chapel all the way to the union building is Speed Lake - a central point of the Rose-Hulman campus. Although you won't be able to see the chapel from this vantage point, you can get a feel for what it looks like on campus by clicking here - and get a view from the top of a nearby dormitory...
